Your questions answered

As my gorgeous Mum used to say, there is so such thing as a silly question.

So, please don't be shy, if you have any questions, drop me a message below. I'd love to hear from you. I've outlined a few of the most common ones, but if there is anything else, please contact me xx

Covid: Firstly, if you've been affected by Covid I'm so sorry and I'm here to help in any way I can. If you need to postpone your wedding, please get in touch as soon as possible to rearrange your date. Most of the main dates in 2021 and 2022 are already booked, but I do have some availability left and I'm being as flexible as I can.

Frequently asked questions

• Are you available?

Please send me an email through my contact page to check my availability and request a wedding brochure. I typically respond within 24 hours to any enquiries.

• Once I’ve booked you, what’s the next step?

Fantastic, that’s one thing ticked off the list. I’m so happy you’re trusting me with your day. The next thing is we both sign a contract. This guarantees I will cover your day.

• Is there a deposit?

Yes. To secure your date, the contract needs to be signed and a deposit usually 20% of the total needs to be paid.

• Then what?

Once the date is booked, I send out a booking questionnaire. This gives me all the information I will need to work out a timeline for your day to help with the day’s running order.

• Do we get to meet you before the day?

I love to meet couples before the day, ideally an engagement shoot is a great way to break the ice and help you both feel comfortable in front of the camera. However, I’m not asking you to book me for anything extra. Normally, we meet at my home or at your venue or at a convenient location so that we can get to know each other. Alternatively, a lot of my couples are happy using Skype as we may be in different countries.

• What happens on the day itself?

Before the day arrives, we will have chatted through the timeline for the day, so you will know when and where to expect me, and vice versa.

I like the morning preparation to be purely documentary. This enables you to relax, enjoy your morning with all your girls or guys, without having to worry about me getting in the way or posing you.

As every wedding is different, there is a lot that can vary, but you and I will have talked everything through thoroughly beforehand so there’ll be no miscommunication or surprises – you’ll know exactly what to expect.

• What is your style and approach?

My approach is mainly documentary, which means I don’t want you to pose for me or feel pressured to perform. Documentary is about observing and capturing, but at some pre-arranged points of the day, I will gently and efficiently direct you and your loved ones into slightly more composed family photos.

• I'm nervous about getting my photo taken and hate posing, what can we do?

I think everyone feels the same; no one really likes getting their photo taken, but when you have a professional, who you are comfortable with and trust, then the experience will feel effortless, easy and fun. At the end of the day it’s not about posing, it’s about playing and being together – I just so happen to be there with a camera.

• Do you take the family photographs?

Yes. Again, before the day, we will have talked about exactly what you want to get with your photographs. I normally recommend a maximum of eight group photographs as gathering people takes precious time away from drinking Champagne and mingling.

• When can I expect my photos?

You can expect your photos four – six weeks after your wedding day, depending on time of year. They will be delivered on a USB in a USB presentation box, and on a personal online gallery with downloadable link.

• How long do you store the photos for?

I guarantee six months back-up on my system, so I highly recommend couples to back up their photos as many times as possible as well as print them. I also recommend you come back to me within the first year with your selection of photographs to design your wedding album.

• What happens if you can’t shoot my wedding?

I guarantee I will find a replacement photographer of equal or better standard than myself to photograph your wedding. You never have to worry about this. If my replacement is not satisfactory, you have full moneyback guarantee.

• Where are you based?

I am based between wonderful West Cork in Ireland and the stunning West Coast of the Algarve, both of which I know very well, but I also travel, so if I’m not where you want me to be, I can be.

• Do you travel abroad for weddings / events?

I do travel abroad for weddings, engagement shoots, commercial work and NGO work.

• Do I pay extra if I hire you to travel to a foreign location?

Yes, you pay for my transportation costs, visas, and accommodation on either side of the event. I am fully insured to shoot your special event in any location worldwide. Depending on the destination and flight time, extra costs may incur. Please contact me directly for more information.

• Are you insured?

I have fully comprehensive public liability & indemnity insurance, required by most hotels and resorts.

• Is this your main job?

Yes. I have been a full-time professional photographer since 2005. I started my career with Press 22 in Limerick City, one of Ireland's premier photography agencies, working with clients such as The Irish Times. I did this for ten years then moved to West Cork in 2013 where I set up Emma Jervis Photography. In 2019 I moved to Portugal to launch the company in the Algarve too. I travel constantly for my weddings.

• How much does it cost to hire you as my wedding photographer?

As every wedding is different and unique prices can vary and I can be flexible depending on the number of guests, location, etc. Please drop me an email via my contact page and I’ll send on my wedding brochure, which includes costs, extras, and album details.

All clients receive a USB that contains anywhere from 400 to 700 fully edited images from the day, depending on number of hours you would like me to be there.

• Can I get an album from you?

Yes, I’m a proud supplier of Queensberry albums. (www.queensberry.com) which range in size, layout and covers depending on what you would like. My brochure gives a full breakdown of packages, including costs and extras.
